Accomodations
There is a wide variety of accomodations, from hotels (one of them a beautifully converted old prison), glamping at Huglo, tree top cottage, camping, to a lighthouse on the small island Midtøya by Leirvik. The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) even has a cottage on top of the mountain Stovegolvet, with a 360 degree view.

There are several art galleries in Stord, two commercial galleries downtown Leirvik, in addition to some private galleries at artist's homes.
Culture, movies, public pool and library
Stord Culture centre is ocated in the middle of Leirvik. With status as a regional culture centre, lot's of activity is going on there most of the year:

- The library is proactive with events for all ages. You can even come and practice your Norwegian at Språkkafe, ever so often

Petting zoo
Meet Tinker horses, the Norwegian cattle race Vestlandsk fjordfe, the Norwegian sheep race Gammelnorsk spelsau, Norwegian milk producing goats, geese, ducks, emus, chickens, peacocks, pheasants, rabbits, mangalita pigs, parrots, tropical birds, reptiles, dogs and cats at the petting zoo in Myrvold Gård in Huglo.
Parcour, skateboarding and petanque
Take the family to the activity park by Stord culture center for parcour, skateboarding and pentanque. Address: Hamnegata 1, 5411 Stord.
Beaches
Enjoy swimming in the sea for example at Sponavikjo or Hystadmarkjo or take a dip in the lake Ådlandsvatnet.

There are many hiking paths close to downtown Leirvik, for example Ådlandsvatnet, Landåsen, Hystadmarkjo and Gullberg.

Museums
Sunnhordland museum
Sunnhordland Museum has regional museum responsibilities for all eight municipalities in Sunnhordland (Austevoll, Bømlo, Etne, Fitjar, Kvinnherad, Stord, Sveio and Tysnes).
They have three locations in Stord:
- Sunnhordlandstunet (Leirvik, Stord): The museum comprises ten buildings: including open hearth huts, a farm house with an attic, a school house, a country store and a beach fisherman’s rented hut. The museum has permanent exhibitions featuring agriculture, forestry, fishery and coastal industries, life in prehistoric times and a lovely local textiles exhibition. Open Tuesday-Friday all year, and daily (not Mondays) during summer. About Sunnhordland Museum
- The Mine Museum (Litlabø, Stord): The museum comprises several of the buildings from the mining period from 1865 to 1967. Send email for guided assistance.
- The miller’s house (Leirvik, Stord): A restored holding the miller’s apartment, a storage room, and a photomontage shows the history of milling and ship building on the location. Situated next to Stord Church. For guided assistance: Send email for guided assistance.
Stord Maritime Museum
The maritime history is strong along the whole coast of Norway. The non-profit organization, Friends of Stord maritime museum, aim to preserve memorabilia, photos and history connected to the Norwegian coastal culture.
They are located in Leirvik: Nattrutekaien 21, 5411 Stord.

Night life
There are many restaurants and bars in Stord, and some offer events like concerts, quiz, improvisational theater, dancing etc.

Community festival
Every year in June, there is a four day festival downtown Leirvik, Folk i sentrum, with the intention to promote health, well-being and community. Folk i sentrum (folk-i-sentrum.no)
Public transportation
If you are in need of public transportation, you can get to Stord by plane (from Oslo), by bus, or by speed boat (from Bergen and Sunnhordland).
If you are coming by car from the east or north, you have to cross the fjords by ferry boat. It is a lovely way to have a break from driving and enjoying the views.
