Meal delivery

Meal delivery is a programme where food is brought to you at home. It is a service the municipality offers for those who have trouble cooking dinner for themselves.

Description

If you live at home and have a hard time cooking dinner for yourself, you can have food delivered to you. The service may include hot or frozen dinners brought to your home one or more days a week.

Target group

Elderly or physically disabled people living at home.

Criteria/conditions

Illness, age or other reasons keep you from being able to take care of your nutritional needs.

Acts

This is not a statutory service. Meal delivery can be provided to meet a need for assistance which entitles the recipient to the service. In such cases, the service will be provided under the Health Care Act. See Section 3-2 of the Health Care Act .

Forvaltningsloven
Helse- og omsorgstjenesteloven
Kvalitetsforskrift for pleie- og omsorgstjenestene
Forskrift om egenandel for helse- og omsorgstjenester

Guidelines – applying for, or receiving the service

You can contact the municipality for assistance in applying for meal delivery services, or you can ask others to help you if necessary. If someone else applies on your behalf, he or she must have authorisation.

Appendix/supplement

You must provide authorisation if someone else applies for you.

Administrative procedure

The municipality will obtain the information necessary for making a decision on the case. We will then come to a decision. You will normally receive an explanation together with the notification of the decision. You will always receive an explanation if there is a possibility that you will be dissatisfied with the decision. If an explanation is not included, you can obtain one by enquiring with the municipality within the deadline for appeals to the decision.

Time taken to consider the application

The municipality will consider your application as soon as possible. If the matter cannot be determined within one month, you will be informed of this in writing with the reasons for the delay. At the same time you will be informed when you may expect to hear of the municipality’s decision.

Possibilities to appeal; procedure

If you are dissatisfied with the decision, you can appeal to the municipality within three weeks from the date on which you received it. Explain what you are dissatisfied with and why you believe the decision should be changed. If you need guidance, you can enquire with the municipality. If the municipality upholds its decision, the case will be passed on to the county governor, who will determine whether the appeal should be sustained.
